Italian manufacturer Maserati and the Monegasque Monaco Sports Group enter into a multi-year partnership that sees them link up from Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Despite racing under a new team name from Season 9, Maserati MSG Racing has a defined history and heritage in Formula E and has been present on the grid since 2014 as Venturi.

As one of the first teams to join the series, Venturi moved from strength to strength and the outfit remains as one of only a handful of constant participants in the World Championship.

A breakthrough Season 5 campaign yielded the team’s first victory, with the outfit scoring podiums in 20 percent of all Formula E races from Seasons 1-8. In the 2022/23 season, Formula E is set to reach a new level of competition and the pinnacle of electric vehicle performance with its third generation racing car.

Off the back of its most successful season to date and the final under the Venturi name, Maserati MSG Racing is firmly set for success in what will be a landmark competition for the highest tier of electric motorsport.

The next chapter in the team's journey has begun as owners Monaco Sports Group (MSG) welcome a partnership with Maserati, heralding the return of the iconic Trident marque to motor racing’s world stage for the first time in 60 years.

Blending its rich heritage with a bold vision of fearless innovation, the team Maserati MSG Racing brings future-focused performance to Formula E.

Built upon the foundations of Venturi Racing, pioneered by Gildo Pastor, Maserati MSG Racing brings new attitudes to defy, disrupt and redefine by fighting at the front in motorsport’s most competitive arena. With the team’s  historic record of success, the next generation is set to emerge with bright beginnings as we embark upon a new journey to electrify and excite.

In Season 8, Stoffel Vandoorne put in a commandingly consistent championship-winning campaign, setting the podium record en route to his first title. Now with DS PENSKE, the Belgian will be aiming to keep his number 1.

For Season 9 and Gen3 it’s a change of scenery for the champion, with a move to newly christened DS PENSKE, alongside double champion Jean-Eric Vergne.

With a wealth of racing experience behind him, the Belgian driver entered into the all-electric street racing series in 2018 with HWA Racelab, adding to an already impressive motorsport career. For the 2019/20 campaign, Vandoorne transitioned to the newly-christened Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team as Mercedes' manufacturer involvement fully crystallised.

Vandoorne's racing career started at the age of six, competing in kart championships. With several victories to his name, the Belgian's breakthrough moment came in 2008 when he clinched the championship in that year's Belgian KF2 season.

The following year marked the start of Vandoorne's international racing career before he progressed to the F4 Eurocup in 2010, winning in his debut season. In 2013, the Belgian driver was brought into the McLaren Young Driver Programme before he was announced as McLaren Mercedes' official reserve driver in 2014.

Alongside his Formula 1 role, Vandoorne raced in GP2 Series for the French squad ART Grand Prix. After a successful first season with the team, he went on to win the championship at the second attempt. A year later, Vandoorne stepped in as a replacement for the injured two-time world champion Fernando Alonso to make his Formula 1 race debut in the 2016 Bahrain Grand Prix, finishing in the points.

The Belgian driver remained with McLaren until he joined HWA Racelab in October 2018. Joined by DTM Champion Gary Paffett, the two made up the team's driver line-up for it's debut season in the all-electric street racing championship.

With HWA transitioning to a full Mercedes-EQ works team in Season 6, Vandoorne partnered rookie Nyck de Vries and steered the Silver Arrow 01 to its first podium at the season-opener in Diriyah, and a maiden race win at the Berlin finale to sign off an impressive campaign for the German marque.

Vandoorne won in Rome in Season 7, as the Silver Arrow 02 proved its worth, and came home ninth in the standings, a podium shy of his teammate and ruing bad luck - particularly Oliver Rowland's wipe out move in London costing the Belgian a podium, and potentially the title.

The pair return for Season 8 to defend their titles and duly, they did – this time, it was Vandoorne who led the Silver Arrows home with a landmark win in Monaco the highlight, outside of lifting the trophy in Seoul, of course.

After some time in the shadows as a test and reserve driver Jake Hughes steps up to a full-time drive with McLaren as the legendary British team makes its debut in Formula E.

Born in Birmingham, England, Hughes has had a quick rise in motorsport after making a late start to his racing career with a professional karting debut at the age of 16 in 2010.

After only two years in karts, he stepped up to single-seaters with a handful of races in Formula Renault before a full-time drive in the inaugural BRDC Formula 4 Championship in 2013. In an impressive campaign, Hughes went on to raise the championship trophy with four wins and six podiums.

Two seasons across Formula Renault followed with Hughes picking up victories and putting in a consistent title challenge across the multiple series, his best coming in the 2015 Formula Renault 2.0 Alps with second overall.

From there he graduated to Formula 3 taking in a variety of drives across FIA Formula 3, GP3 and FIA F3 European Championship, narrowly missing out on the F3 Asia title despite clocking nine victories in every race appearance that he made.

Since 2020, Hughes has taken part in the FIA Formula 2 Championship and shared this responsibility with a simulator role for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team.

The sometime podcaster has experience in Formula E, having combined his sim role with Mercedes in F1 as the test and reserve driver for their championship-winning Mercedes-EQ outfit and also ROKiT Venturi Racing. Hughes also took part in the 2020 Marrakesh Rookie Test, finishing with the seventh best time in a highly competitive line-up that included current race winners and upcoming rivals Nick Cassidy and Norman Nato.

Hughes will graduate to a full-time drive with NEOM McLaren Formula E Team as the legendary British racing outfit have picked up some homegrown talent for their debut new Gen3 era.
